Return of the Revenge of the Son of the Cousin of the Thing from the Pond Next to the Black Lagoon
02:24am 31/05/2008
Depite the better efforts of several people, I am still Web accessible. This is a distressing thing for all concerned, myself included, as one the one hand it means that you all get inflicted with my scrabblings at the rock-face of QWERTY, whilst I get spam email in retaliation.

One of us is the loser in this equation, and thanks to email filters, it's probably not me.

Howandorever, it's time to use this LJ thing for a bit of pointless self-indulgent whining and memeage. If I manage to make my quota of bad poetry, I get my very own "Emo/Hitler" t-shirt.

...but in true emo-style, the deep unending ceaseless dark apathy of my soul once more convinces me that none of you will truly understand my pain, so there's no point in trying to enlighten you with the sheer magnificence of my insights into the bleak wilderness of extended metaphors for navel-gazing about why my life sucks (even though it actually doesn't, which makes this post even MORE Emo - yeah, that's how I mope, bitches).

Oh well. Bullet-points it is, then.

1) Back in Mullingar for the moment. This involves commuting to work in Dublin. I never claimed to be smart.
2) I keep getting tapped for doing high-level Cam-work in Changeling. Again, I never claimed to be smart.
3) Booked plane flights and hotel for ICC in October, to be hosted by Canada, but held in Detroit. There's a reason, but it's not claiming to be smart.

There's a few other pots boiling away, and we shall see what the future holds, but things are looking up overall.

...in an emo sort of way.
*claims t-shirt*

Bad/good/good/bad
07:55pm 08/03/2008
Bad news - I completely forgot my sister's 30th birthday the other day.

Good news - she forgave me because...

Good news - her boyfriend had just proposed to her, and she was in too good a mood to care about little brother's amnesia.

Bad news - I now have to go to America next year, as that's where the wedding is going to be held. This means I must confront two of my many enemies - budgeting and Homeland Security.

And isn't self-indulgent rambling what LJ is all about?

The Presidents of the United States of America are releasing a new album this month, "These Are The Good Times People"

They'll be playing Tripod on the 26th April.

I shall be there, freaked out and small, with my can of peaches in hand and my dune buggy parked outside.

Why no Warpcon?
07:02am 27/01/2008
Well, I've been throwing around various reasons as to why I didn't venture down to Cork this year - money, laziness, stuff to be done in Dublin, free booze to be drank at work do, have to start writing a monstrous Leprecon scenario - and they've been met with the kind of withering contempt that only gamers can bring to bear on such topics.

So, it's time to come clean. It's because of a girl.

I sacrificed Warpcon so that I could hang around waiting for this female to take her sweet time and make a decision.

After months of waiting, she decided in favour of the idea.
Biggest event ever in my life thus far... )

2007/2008
05:39pm 19/01/2008
2007... was. A year of mistakes, second-guessing myself, and generally watching my life go "Pause". On the other hand, it was a year of finding my niche, getting a sense of accomplishment, making plans that will be enacted, and realising that I do actually get recognised in a positive way for doing what I do.

A mixed bag, then. One thing I can definitely point at is that my bile level has risen by a power of 10. This isn't something I'm happy aboout. However, steps are going to be taken.

2008... is. So far, I'm dealing.

Now, where's that maguffin got to?

Dear Melbourne Cammies
01:51pm 27/11/2007
Dave, the player of Arthur Chrandle, is now in Dublin. He's drinking all the pints I owe Melbourne. Sorry.

And given the pintage I owe Melbourne, he may not survive this week...

  Finland.

'Tis cold.
'Tis amusing.
'Tis a place where the phrase "Emos! Thousands of them! springs to mind."

I may have to get myself a gun...

Once more the dreaded insomnia kicks in, rendering me incapable of.... no, wait, seem to be falling asleep now. Oh good. Toodles.

Oh, and I passed my review in work. I'm now permanently employed, on the pension and stuff. And they gave me a pay rise. roxxor. Have spent the last few days in varying degrees of drunk and hungover.

Tentacled & untrustworthy wherever I go on the internet, it seems...
09:17pm 05/09/2007

I don't even read "A Song of Ice & Fire", a series for which I have so little interest that for years I thought it was a spin-off from a rather bad Conan-esque animated movie ( http://imdb.com/title/tt0085542/ if you care), but I am heartily amused by the extent to which Tyroni propaganda pervades the universe of pop-culture, tarring anything with more than six limbs (or anything with tentacles, for that matter) as being untrustworthy swine who'd clamber over your still-warm corpse to get the brass ring.

I'd never do that.

Not for a BRASS ring, at any rate. It'd have to be gold, at least. And I'd wait until you were cold - warm corpses have a nasty tendency to turn out to be not-quite-dead-yet-people who stab you in the back, in the grand tradition of "One Last Schlock-horror Scare". And clambering is so undignified, anyway. Why clamber when you can cruise up in a chauffeur-driven limo?

I could nit-pick this meme all day. Suffice to say I am amused, slandered and much maligned in equal portions. Just don't get between me and a gold ring...

Reading through the new Changeling book, I have to say I'm impressed thus far - White Wolf seem to have finally copped the idea of internal game balance and the setting is very, very interesting. Finally one of their NWoD games has teeth in the scary-game stakes in the form of the Fae.

That being said, I haven't made it to the powerzz section yet, so the chance of my head exploding in fury is still on the cards.

But so far, I'm happy with what I'm seeing. I know it's probably not going to last past the first splat-book, though...

Oh god. Oh sweet Jesus on a bicycle. That's just wrong.

Ferchrissakes, people, lj-cut exists FOR A REASON! That reason is to prevent people from vomiting all over their pc, doing irreparable damage to the keyboard and mouse and leaving one hell of a mess on the screen, table-top and surrounding environs!

lj-cut - it's not a privilege, it's a necessity.

I saw the trailer a little while ago, iether the studio completely missed the point of the book, or they dumbed down the trailer to increase their potential audience.

I am apprehensively enthusiastic about this.

[info]timiat's probably going to have a fit, though.

mood: Evangelical zeal for doom!
So, after an interminable wait, I am now back in possession of my PC and a net connection. Mwarharharharharharharharhar. None of you are safe!

Unless, of course, I get distracted by something shiny and/or pointless. But that never happens on the interweb. Ever. At all. Honest. Guv.

So.

What have I been up to?

Working, mostly. Reading some. ummm... Christ, what have I been up to?

OH! Dublin Soul Festival last week. That was cool. Y'all missed out on that. Possibly I should have let people know it was on... naahh.

Opera last night - Cosi Fan Tutti. Excellent stuff, even if I did get a bit drowsy through overheating towards the end. Reworking the setting to deal with skangers and their mots worked really well, but I'm not entirely convinced that one of the female leads wasn't actually a man.

Still, I got to see an opera where people mooned the audience, an italian soprano strutted her stuff in a bikini and other skimply accoutrements and where, during his big operatic rant about the fickle nature of women and how they do nothing but ruin the lives of men (Mozart - not bitter about his failed relationship at all), one of the tenors ran through the audience, flinging frilly knickers at various women in the audience. It was like being at a Bizarro-Tom Jones concert.
Even more bizarrely, it fit with the plot and theme of the song.

Now all I have to do is figure out why LJ's automatic spell-checker is underlining everything as wrong. Including, might I add, the acronym "LJ".
